The Plantec Group

1990 – The origins

The story begins within the family cocoon of the two Plantec brothers. In 1990, Yannick took up the guitar; two years later, Odran began learning the bombarde. Very quickly, the brothers tried their hand at composing and gained their first musical experiences. As teenagers, they cut their teeth in several bands, notably Displann, where they developed their playing and their rapport.

The two brothers decided to play together under the name Les Frères Plantec. They performed as a duo for the first time at a fest-noz in Huelgoat. For over a year and a half, they played at numerous fest-noz events, sometimes several per weekend, travelling throughout Brittany, contacting organisers themselves and gradually establishing their musical identity.

The band's beginnings

The duo expanded with the arrival of Nicolas Le Millier (biniou) and Christophe Hellec (bass), marking the birth of PLANTEC as a band. This early period is symbolised by the album Reverzhi, which laid the foundations for their musical universe.

The desire to incorporate a more pronounced rhythmic dimension became apparent. Mkanik joined Plantec on the machines, giving rise to the album Mekanik. This stage marked the definitive entry of electronic music into the project and opened up new sonic possibilities.

2007 – The voice

Thanks to kan ha diskan singer Louise Ebrel, the group met Maël Lhopiteau (singer and harpist). This collaboration marked a major turning point with the album A-raok. For the first time, the voice took centre stage, combining traditional Breton tunes with compositions not exclusively dedicated to dance.

2009 – Electric

A change in line-up led Plantec to evolve into a seven-piece band for the preparation of the album Mekanik. Kévin Toublant (bass) and Yvon Molard (drums) joined the band. This period marked a decisive turning point: a more electric and industrial sound, still rooted in Breton dance music, but capable of crossing borders and reaching metal and mainstream festivals. Plantec collaborated for the first time with producer and director Roli Mosimann (Björk, The Young Gods, The The).

Electro-acoustic trance

After returning for a few dates as a duo, Djibril rejoined the Plantec brothers on the machines. The group continued its collaboration with Roli Mosimann and embarked on numerous projects with artists from a variety of backgrounds. This period marked the evolution of an aesthetic in which acoustics and electronics merged to create trance music at the crossroads of tradition and contemporary culture.
